Taliesin Live - Opra Cymru: Fidelio

Opra Cymru present

by Ludwig van Beethoven

New Welsh version by Mererid Hopwood

OPRA Cymru celebrates the ten years since its inaugural concert with a new Welsh-language version of Beethoven’s only opera Fidelio. This is the inspiring story of the bravery of a woman who rescues her husband from political execution. Beethoven’s music is testament to his core beliefs in freedom, fidelity and love, and includes the famous ‘Prisoners’ Chorus.’ The opera is told through the words of Mererid Hopwood, the first woman to win the Bard’s Chair at Wales’ National Eisteddfod. This production of Fidelio follows OPRA Cymru’s award-winning première production of Mererid Hopwood’s and Gareth Glyn’s Wythnos yng Nghymu Fydd.

The opera is written in Welsh, but thanks to the Sibrwd mobile phone app., performances will be wholly accessible for non-Welsh speakers. More information at http://sibrwd.com/
