Taliesin Live - The Wizard, the Goat and the Man who Won the War

Theatr Cadair presents

The Wizard, the Goat and the Man who won the War

Written and Directed by D.J. Britton (Award-winning dramatist, director and dramaturge)

Performed by Richard Elfyn (Winner   BAFTA CYMRU BEST ACTOR AWARD 1996)

Acclaimed Lloyd George play returns to Taliesin for a unique show to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.

The play begins in the South of France, on Lloyd George’s 50th wedding anniversary. He looks back over his life and tries to defend everything he has done, while still looking forward to more political and amorous adventures.

To mark the centenary of the end of the First World War, D.J. Britton and Richard Elfyn’s much acclaimed powerful portrayal of the great Welsh statesman Lloyd George, is back, fiercer and funnier than ever.  How could a Welsh-speaking chapel boy become the steely statesman who saw Britain through the Great War? How could the champion of nonconformist Christianity become a womaniser living a double life? How could this protector of the poor risk so much in the pursuit of wealth?
With mystery, charm, poetry and much humour, this speculative drama follows Lloyd George’s imagination through his imperfect past into dreams of further conquests.

“Lloyd George is a dramatist’s dream, a mass of contradictions: charismatic, intelligent, foolish, impulsive, clinically decisive and painfully human. I wrote this progressively, giving Richard a few pages at a time, and he grew to possess the role as much as it possessed him."   -   D.J. Britton

“Charismatic, with long-haired good looks, Lloyd George had all the trappings of stardom. If ever there was a rock star of politics, it was him."   -   Richard Elfyn
