Working with the Community
Connecting through culture to better understand ourselves and the world we live in.
We strive to forge meaningful cultural experiences that improve the lives of individuals and the wellbeing of communities. We are presenting, initiating and co-creating with artists, audiences and communities alike.
Our work is future-focused and is an evolution in an ever-changing world; working at a time of multiple crises, it strives to be purposeful and impactful across the generations, promoting a more equal, globally aware society.
We enjoy working in partnership with artists, companies and festival producers, with contributions ranging from space offered ‘in-kind’ to co-producing new work.
In our commitment to reflecting contemporary Welsh society, we embed diversity within our programme, actively seeking out artists, companies and community groups who are working in the context of protected characteristics and working to attract new audiences as a result.
We are always keen to hear from artists, producers and community groups who are interested in starting a relationship with us and the audiences we work with. You can contact us by emailing: email@example.com
County Youth Dance Company
Since 2004, we have offered funding, support and performances opportunities to CYDC, the County Youth Dance Company. CYDC is supported by Taliesin in their aim to provide opportunities in contemporary dance for young people aged from 14-19. The company holds auditions in January and May, working performances in April at Taliesin and in July at Dance Days. To make further enquiries about joining the company, click here.
West Glamorgan Youth Theatre Company
Taliesin offers support to CYDC’s sister organisation, WGYTC, providing a opportunities for young people to gain experience in putting on high quality performances in a theatre.
Primary Dance Project
Each July, Year 6 pupils from six primary schools across Swansea come together with a professional choreographer and Contemporary Dance students from County Youth Dance Company for our Primary Dance Project. Pupils get the opportunity to respond to a different topic each year through the medium of dance, first in their schools then here at Taliesin during a production week and 4 performances.
The scheme allows pupils to learn more about dance, push their abilities and to work with youngsters from outside of their own school groups.
Feedback on the project from teachers, pupils and parents is always very positive and the performances astound audiences year after year.
