Taliesin Cinema - Wales One World Film Festival: Three Faces (cert tbc)

Overview:

Dir: Jafar Panahi

Iran  2018 1hr 40mins

With English subtitles

Behnaz Jafari, Jafar Panahi, Marziyeh Rezaei

After receiving what appears to be a suicide note, Iranian actor Behnaz Jafari (playing herself) sets off to find the distraught girl with her director (Jafar Panahi) as her driver. The plot thickens when they reach the girl’s remote village and find themselves enmeshed in rituals of hospitality and ‘quaint’ local traditions. Through a series of often-farcical encounters, Panahi astutely probes the patriarchal customs and how they impact on Iranian women.

“The most feminist film of the (Cannes Film Festival) . . . is the quiet, subtle and beautiful work of a 57-year-old male Iranian.”  THE GUARDIAN
