Coming this May 2022

Wednesday 4th May

We’re into the final month of our current programme and we’ve still got an exciting variety of performances for you to get your teeth stuck into.

We have eight films lined up for our cinema nights, as well as three live music performances, three live broadcasts, and one furiously funny musical comedy; all at Taliesin.

On the silver screen we have compelling and humorous modern day love story in Ali & Ava which is being shown tonight. There’s a week-long interval before we’re back with a bang on Monday 16 May with a thrilling mystery crime drama The Outfit starring Mark Rylance.

Tuesday 17 May is the UK Premiere of the brand-new docufilm, Tosh, which takes us through the incredible journey of Wales and Swansea football icon, John Toshack’s astonishing career. This event is almost sold out so you’ll need to move quick to get your hands on the final seats. The following day on Wednesday 18 May we return to the classic with Paper Moon. A rare opportunity to see this 1973 black and white comedy on the big screen.

Tuesday 24 May will see The Worst Person in the World being screened, a Norwegian romantic masterpiece (subtitled) followed by  The Real Charlie Chaplin on Wednesday 25 May. Never-before-heard recordings, intimate home movies, and newly restored classic films reveal a side to Chaplin that the world never got to see.

The following week, on Monday 30 May delve into the WW2 epic Operation Mincemeat starring Colin Firth and finally, on Tuesday 31 May, it’s another opportunity to see the Oscar-winning film Belfast by Kenneth Brannagh. The original screening sold out almost immediately, so don’t miss out on seeing this instant classic at Taliesin this May.

If you’ve missed the goose-bump inducing thrill of being hit by the soundwaves of live music… then we have a trio of live music events that’ll give you your fix and have you cheering for more.

This Saturday 7 May we welcome the famous duo of Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita, who are celebrating 10 years of collaboration and the release of their latest album, ECHO with a UK tour. If discovering new fusion of music and styles is your thing, then this is one performance you won’t want to miss their stop at Swansea, only at Taliesin.

If it’s something more raucous you’re after, where you’ll be involuntarily stamping your feet and clapping to the beat; then look no further than Scottish sensation, Talisk. Hailing from Isle of Skye,  have already sold out venues and topped the charts with their modern twist on classic folk music. Catch them at Taliesin Thursday 19 May.

From a bit further afield, we’ll be welcoming Jake Blount and his three-piece band from the USA on Friday 27 May.  Combining traditional folk instruments of the fiddle, guitar, uke, and double bass with the unmistakable African American fashioned banjo. Jake will be accompanied by his accomplished stringband, performing a captivating blend of footstomping folk-Americana and evocative jazz and blues.

Looking for to escape the trials and tribulations of the real world for an evening? There’s no better way than to be carted off to the fantastical, musical, hilarious world of Milky Peaks where you’ll be reduced to tears of laughter and wanting to join in on the fun. Visiting all the way from Theatr Clwyd, Milky Peaks will be showing in Taliesin for one night only on Saturday 21 May.

Getting to places like London to witness the world-class performances of the National Theatre or the Royal Opera House can be daunting. But with Taliesin’s Live Broadcast events, we bring the best of theatre, ballet, and opera directly to you.

Join us in the auditorium for live broadcasts of some of the most prestigious on-stage performances such as Royal Opera House’s La Traviata on Friday 6 May, the Royal Ballet’s Swan Lake on Monday 23 May, or come enjoy the incredible performance of Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter, Schindlet’s List, James Bond) in National Theatre’s Straight Line Crazy.
