Welcome / Croeso

Enjoy three weekends of free dance performances, workshops and masterclasses this summer in Swansea and digitally!

For the 16th edition of Swansea’s FREE International Dance Festival, Taliesin goes “local” and digital! This year, Taliesin brings together performers from across and around the UK, dancing alongside local and community dance groups, in a world-class dance festival. For the first time this year the dance festival is taking place across three weekends in July, for more fun and more opportunities to not miss a thing! It is also the second year that Taliesin is extending its programme to the world wide web and is choosing to present a Digital online version of Dance Days.

This year, all Dance Days live outdoor events are free but ticketed. This is to ensure a safe and, above all, enjoyable experience for all.

We advise that you book in advance as places may be limited.

For the first time this year the dance festival is taking place across three weekends in July, for more fun and more opportunities to not miss a thing! It is also the second year that Taliesin is extending its programme to the world wide web and is choosing to present a Digital online version of Digital Dance Days. Explore the outdoor programme, taking place at Ravenhill park and Brynmill park, and online programme in DANCE DAYS DIGITAL, which includes bookable interactive workshops,  available on 3 July, as well as pre-recorded performances and masterclasses.

This year we are grateful to work on Dance Days Digital, in association with the Glynn Vivian and the National Waterfront Museum. We are especially grateful to the communities of Ravenhill and Brynmill.

Swansea was one of the first UK cities to join this worldwide dance network, which includes Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Geneva, London and Manchester.

Traditional and contemporary, hip hop and acrobatic, this year’s programme features a dazzling variety of dance for everyone to enjoy. In addition to the physical programme, the online festival also offers bookable workshops & masterclasses for all ages, Q&As with the artists, as well as some networking opportunities.

To give you a taste of Dance Days 2019, here's what you will see this coming weekend.

What is Dance Days?

Dance Days is a summer festival, created by Taliesin Arts Centre in 2005. Taliesin has been producing this not-to-be-missed weekend of thrilling dance performances for thirteen years now, and it’s absolutely free!

This whole festival brings together performers from across the UK and beyond, dancing alongside Swansea community dance groups. Contemporary meets traditional as Dance Days features a wide variety of dance, giving the people of Swansea an entire weekend of dance in unexpected places.

Swansea's FREE International Dance Festival is part of ''Dancing Cities - CQD'', an international network of festivals that programmes contemporary dance shows in urban landscapes. Swansea was one of the first UK cities to join this worldwide network, which includes Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Geneva, London and Manchester.

What's on this Dance Days 2021?

Once again, Taliesin brings together performers from across the UK and beyond, dancing alongside local dance groups, in a world-class dance festival. Traditional and contemporary, circus and parkour, this year's programme features a dazzling variety of dance.

We’re featuring some of our festival audience’s favourites live, with the comedic and quirky Kitsch & Sync Collective presenting their new show for 2021 ‘Teddy Girls’. Kapow Dance Circus Theatre return to showcase their latest production ‘Mayfly’, a fusion of water, dance and song, with performance accompanied by an incredible soundscape. Due to perform at Dance Days last year, we’re delighted to at last, be able introduce Mimbre to Swansea with the live spectacle of ‘Lifted’ - a collection of funny, poetic and surprising acrobatic moments, and a breath-taking outdoor circus piece. Hip-Hop dance theatre company Just Us Dance Theatre, join us for the first time this year. A new creation, ‘Born to Protest’ is an outdoor version of company founder/director and choreographer, Joseph Toonga’s stage piece which was due to take place at Taliesin Arts Centre in spring earlier this year.

A few words about Dance Days from Nia Mills, Dance Days Organiser at Taliesin Arts Centre:

"Taliesin Arts Centre is committed to giving more people the opportunity to see the very best that the arts have to offer – and it seems ever more important for us to present our programme of live dance, this summer, in the ways that we are able. Audiences can expect the same variety of dance performances which are exhilarating, funny, athletic and accessible with performance companies from across the UK. We’ve even managed to welcome our friends from Spain ; Cia Mar Gomez & Cia Vero Cendoya,, to the online line-up, and this year are able to include online workshops, giving people of all ages the chance to join in.

Despite not being able to present Dance Days in the usual way, we are very excited to offer the people of Swansea a fantastic line-up this year, online and outdoor, celebrating the beautiful spaces we have all enjoyed and rediscovered over the past year. This year’s programme and locations, embedded right in our communities across Swansea, offer a real opportunity for even more people to enjoy live dance performance, again at last !

We are grateful for the continued support of the National Waterfront Museum, Glynn Vivian, Swansea Council and especially to our parks community groups, in supporting us to continue this, the must see outdoor festival. Whether online, or outdoor this year, prepare to be amazed, amused and entertained!"

* Performances will go ahead throughout the weekend. Some slight adjustments may be made to times and locations if needed. Information will be on site if so. Please
