Participate

As well as our programme of professional events, Taliesin appreciates the enormous impact that taking part in the arts can have on people's lives. As a result of this we try hard to facilitate opportunities for the public, in particular young people, to participate in workshops and community arts events.

CYDC at Dance DaysSince 2004, we have offered funding, support and performances opportunities to CYDC, the County Youth Dance Company. CYDC is a joint venture of Taliesin, Gorseinon College and the City & County of Swansea to provide opportunities in contemporary dance for young people aged from 14-19years. The company holds auditions in January and May, working performances in April at Taliesin and in July at Dance Days. To make further enquiries about joining the company, click here.

Volunteers handle objects at the Egypt CentreAre you interested in gaining new skills, meeting new people, learning about museums and ancient Egypt? Then volunteering at the Egypt Centre may be for you! As an adult volunteer you can volunteer from as little as 1 hour/ week.

Volunteering at the Egypt Centre is as varied as the experience you want; although all roles have an aspect of gallery maintenance and visitor care. There are a variety of roles you can get involved in including Librarian, Gallery Assistant or supervisor, Researcher, Shop assistant, Trainer, Educational Assistant or leader, Meeter and Greeter, and many more...

All roles receive full training and support so whatever aspect you are interested in at the museum, we have the role for you! If you are interested, its really easy to get involved. All you have to do is fill in an application form, downloadable from the website, or available from the Egypt Centre, and post it to Ashleigh Taylor, the Volunteer Manager.

If you would like more information please contact Ashleigh on 01792 606065

Primary Project 2009Each July, Year 6 pupils from six primary schools across Swansea come together with a professional choreographer and Contemporary Dance students from Gorseinon College  for our Primary Dance Project. Pupils get the opportunity to respond to a different topic each year through the medium of dance, first in their schools then here at Taliesin during a production week and 4 performances.

The scheme allows pupils to learn more about dance, push their abilities and to work with youngsters from outside of their own school groups.

Feedback on the project from teachers, pupils and parents is always very positive and the performances astound audiences year after year.

Our latest participatory adventure is Sat Dawns, a Saturday dance club for young people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend dance classes. The project is funded by the Sport Council of Wales and is hosted by Swansea Metropolitan University on their Townhill Campus. Sat Danws bridges the age gap between the Primary Dance Project and CYDC. Participants perfromed at this years Dance Days to rousing applause.
